Energy 501 Drilling Basics (Online Course)

This course is the first in a series of courses about drilling for hydrocarbons.

This course provides an overview of drilling for oil and natural gas, including an explanation of the drilling process, a description of the types of wells, and a discussion about factors that influence the cost of drilling a well. It also describes the components of a drill rig, including the drill bit and the drill string. Additionally, the course provides information about the process of casing and cementing, and the purpose of drilling fluid (mud). 

Objective

After taking this course, you will be able to describe the drilling process and the different types of wells, identify the components of a drill rig, and outline methods drillers use to control the well, including the use of drilling mud.
